Indriyesu Guttadvāratā
— Surveillance at the entrance of sense faculties —
[indriya gutta+dvāra+]

In MN 33, this formula is defined as being 'vaṇaṃ paṭicchādetā' (covering the wound). Besides its apparitions in the Sekha Paṭipadā, it is sometimes prescribed on its own with Bhojane Mattaññutā and Jāgariyaṃ Anuyoga (see SN 34.120 and 239, AN 3.16 and 4.37). It also has quite a different variant which will be analyzed infra.
