Pañc·imāni, bhikkhave, indriyāni. Katamāni pañca? Saddh·indriyaṃ, vīriy·indriyaṃ, sat·indriyaṃ, samādh·indriyaṃ, paññ·indriyaṃ.

There are, bhikkhus, these five faculties. Which five? The faculty of conviction, the faculty of exertion, the faculty of mindfulness, the faculty of concentration and the faculty of discernment.

Kattha ca, bhikkhave, saddh·indriyaṃ daṭṭhabbaṃ? Catūsu sotāpatti·y·aṅgesu: ettha saddh·indriyaṃ daṭṭhabbaṃ. Kattha ca, bhikkhave, vīriy·indriyaṃ daṭṭhabbaṃ? Catūsu samma·p·padhānesu: ettha vīriy·indriyaṃ daṭṭhabbaṃ. Kattha ca, bhikkhave, sat·indriyaṃ daṭṭhabbaṃ? Catūsu satipaṭṭhānesu: ettha sat·indriyaṃ daṭṭhabbaṃ. Kattha ca, bhikkhave, samādh·indriyaṃ daṭṭhabbaṃ? Catūsu jhānesu: ettha samādh·indriyaṃ daṭṭhabbaṃ. Kattha ca, bhikkhave, paññ·indriyaṃ daṭṭhabbaṃ? Catūsu ariya·saccesu: ettha paññ·indriyaṃ daṭṭhabbaṃ.

And where, bhikkhus, is the faculty of conviction to be seen? In the four factors of stream-entry: the faculty of conviction is to be seen here. And where, bhikkhus, is the faculty of exertion to be seen? In the four right strivings: the faculty of exertion is to be seen here. And where, bhikkhus, is the faculty of mindfulness to be seen? In the four satipaṭṭhānas: the faculty of mindfulness is to be seen here. And where, bhikkhus, is the faculty of concentration to be seen? In the four jhānas: the faculty of concentration is to be seen here. And where, bhikkhus, is the faculty of discernment to be seen? In the four noble truths: the faculty of discernment is to be seen here.

Imāni kho, bhikkhave, pañc·indriyānī ti.

These, bhikkhus, are the five faculties.
