Sāvatthinidānaṃ.

The (sutta) opening at Sāvatthī.{n}

Catasso imā, bhikkhave, nāgayoniyo. Katamā catasso? Aṇḍajā nāgā, jalābujā nāgā, saṃsedajā nāgā, opapātikā nāgā. Imā kho, bhikkhave, catasso nāgayoniyo ti.

There are, bhikkhus, four types of nāgas according to their mode of arising. Which four? Oviparous nāgas, viviparous nāgas, nāgas born in humidity, spontaneously arisen nāgas. These, bhikkhus, are the four types of nāgas according to their mode of arising.
